Smart tag – Simple usage [07 Jan 2010|06:39pm]

For a long time I was wandering how easy and comfortable to work with smart tags. Actually I didn’t knew how it was called officially, but anyway I thought (and still think) that this feature is awesome! Some time ago I’ve started to develop my own components and also spend more time tuning user’s interface. I found that it’s very time consuming and boring to setup necessary properties from the Property view. Its okay to setup few controls in little program, but when you have over 30 complicated views with custom components – you quickly became in a sad mood. So I decide found out how to create for my controls those pretty little triangles on the top right corner at the most standard components.

I found articles, books; I performed several tests and finally made what I want. And you know, it’s really helps me with development! Time saving in action! )

Now I’d like to share how to make it from the very beginning.

For all described actions below I used VS2008, ReSharper5

Hi, i'm just a student, so don't be too strict ;)
I have a problem using a DataGrid in my VB.NET application.
So, what's the problem?
I have a DataGrid, it's DataSource is set to a DataView which gets data from a DataSet, connected to MS SQL DB through SQLDataAdapter.
So, I need to add and edit entries in my DataGrid, applying this changes to my database...
So, how can I do it (I mean applying my changes)?

Website forms [07 May 2006|07:29pm]

I'm making a client-side application that monitors the status of a website and reports what it finds. I have that part working, but now I need to add the ability to have my application automatically submit information through a form on the site (textboxes and submit button style.) I have no clue how to do this, any suggestions?

Multiselect on bound Datagridview's [17 Mar 2006|11:31am]

Ok, I have 3 datagrids, and I have datasources bound to them.

When you click an item on the master grid, the two grids under it filter using The row selected as the criteria of what to display.
if you pick grid #2 grid #3 follows this behavior.

The problem is the app isn't aware of selecting more than 1 row. I have multi-select turned on, so how would I make it use both rows selected?

Popularity of J#? [27 Jan 2006|02:48am]

[ mood | curious ]

Hi, I was wondering if anyone programs in J#? I haven't heard much about J#. I can't find any job listings in my local paper looking for J# programmers. I guess C++ and C# are more popular.

I'll look for some articles on the internet later. Now I'm going to play with the .Net Framework 1.1.

I gotta go to bed.

DLL Management Code? [02 Dec 2005|11:31pm]

I've been asked to find some sort of program, or better yet some code (and even better in Visual Basic of some variety) that will (I think) check the DLLs and their versions that are being loaded against what the program is expecting, or something similar (sorry, it wasn't made very clear.)

Any suggestions? Thanks

MDAC x64 Compatability [11 Jun 2005|10:55am]

[ mood | frustrated ]

On one of my machines, I'm running Windows XP Professional x64 Corporate Edition, with IIS services enabled. A problem I've ran into with my application development using access databases is that 32 Bit MDAC components are not compatable with x64 IIS (see link. Most specifically I'm looking for the JET driver to be compatable

Have any of you ran into this problem? And if so do you have any solutions?

Delete Data from .txt file. [05 May 2005|07:11pm]

I took Programming 101 this semester, so I'm very n00b. I'm working on creating a project for myself with what I learned, but I just realized I need something that we didn't learn in the class.

I have a .txt file with a bunch of data in it. I want to search through this data file, find some data, and be able to edit and/or delete it.

I have the search code and everything working, but how do I delete data from a textfile? Also, is there a way I can overwrite a record with changes, or do I need to delete the record and resave with the changes?

do any of you know of a freeware database converter.. ie: mdb to mdf?

i really hate using access to do it, and i lost my copy of sql server 2003.. and the dude that runs msdnaa here got fired, so I am stuck with the free mssql server for now, and I have a lot of databases I use that are .mdb :|

Delegates at runtime [26 Apr 2005|02:49pm]

I have written an interpreter in C#, and I use System.Reflection to let the user access the Framework (create new objects, access methods and so on). There is only one problem that I can't deal with: there doesn't seem to be a way of creating event handlers dynamically, as delegates don't have constructors.

Am I missing something really obvious? The only way I could think to do it would be to use System.Reflection.Emit to create a temporary assembly with a method of the right signature and attach a delegate to that, and that seems very long-winded.

ok, just a random question.

why is it that .net deletes sql statements, such as.
Me.OleDbSelectCommand1.CommandText = "SELECT TOP " & pageSize & " Name, Address, PhoneNo FROM CustomerTable"

The variable 'pagesize' is either undeclared or was never assigned.
^-- i guess this is why, but why is it deleting it, shouldn't it just give you an error rather than deleting your statement ?

Hey I'm New [15 Apr 2005|07:13pm]

[ mood | awake ]

Hey I'm new here, just thought I'd stick my head in and say hi.

I'm in high school right now, I plan to just monitor you guys and learn through osmosis, but I might ask questions if I need help.

I'm currently in a data warehousing class...learning software like MS SQL Server 2000, Sagent, Visual Studio.NET 2003 Enterprise Architect Edition, blah blah blah. I'm also self teaching myself C# on the side, hoping to be able to learn how to pull everything together eventually by the end of my class for my final project(ASP.NET/ADO.NET)

Anyways just thought I'd stick my head in

*scream* [15 Apr 2005|02:11pm]

[ mood | *GRAWR* ]

stupid stupid program.

I had no idea how to get graphics to work in vb.net. My teacher finally showed me how, and explained how to do the rest of the maze project.
so i've got one maze that works.

what really SUX and can cost me marks is that the other two mazes don't work. no reason not to. they work on keypress, and the code was copy/pasted and then the variable names changed (ie: "maze1" is turned to "maze2", etc) to fit the different mazes. and the damn red dot won't move.

this is an example of the code under the keypress option:\

'check for the end of the maze
If x > 33 Then
'close the maze
'congratulate the user on completion
MsgBox("Congratulations for completing the maze!", MsgBoxStyle.OKOnly, "Congratulations!")
End If

' check for wall with each keypress.
If e.KeyChar = "6"c Then
If maze2.Grid(y, x + 1) = 0 Then
'if no wall, then Otto moves one to the right
x = x + 1
End If
End If
If e.KeyChar = "4"c Then
If maze2.Grid(y, x - 1) = 0 Then
'check to see if Otto is still within the parameters of the maze
If x - 1 >= 1 Then
'if no wall, then Otto moves one to the left
x = x - 1
'otherwise, display a message box to redirect the user
MsgBox("Please go in the other direction. The end of the maze is to your right", MsgBoxStyle.OKOnly, "Wrong Way")
End If
End If
End If
If e.KeyChar = "8"c Then
If maze2.Grid(y - 1, x) = 0 Then
'check to see if Otto is still within the parameters of the maze
If y - 1 >= 2 Then
'if no wall, then Otto moves one space up the maze
y = y - 1
'otherwise, display a message box to redirect the user
MsgBox("Please choose another direction.", MsgBoxStyle.OKOnly, "Wrong Way")
End If
End If
End If
If e.KeyChar = "2"c Then
If maze2.Grid(y + 1, x) = 0 Then
'check to see if Otto is still within the parameters of the maze
If y + 1 <= 33 Then
'if no wall, then Otto moves one space down the maze
y = y + 1
'otherwise, display a message box to redirect the user
MsgBox("Please choose another direction.", MsgBoxStyle.OKOnly, "Wrong Way")
End If
End If
End If
'redraw the maze after every keypress so that Otto appears to be moving
End Sub

can anyone explain why it doesn't work?????

(if you email me, i can send you the .zip file.)

new new new [04 Mar 2005|01:33pm]

[ mood | a lil sick... ]

Hey, I'm new to this newsgroup, so i just wanted to say hi...

i'm a vb person, right now i'm in community college and we're dabbling in .NET....

i have to admit, i mostly joined this community so that if i run into difficulties with programs that've been assigned, if my vb guru can't answer my q's maybe someone here could...

as an ending, i've played with vb off and on for about 5 years, and i have to admit i'm rusty... maybe that's why i don't know the answer, but have any of you ever heard of the "bubble sort"???

Web browser [29 Jan 2005|08:12pm]

Can anyone recommend a light-weight web browser control? I'm currently using the AxWebBrowser in my project, but for what I need I'm thinking it's a little bit of overkill.

All I really want in functionality is:

  • Text formatting, really only basic font control. I.e. font size, colour.

  • Support for anchor tags and the ability to intercept user click events for links.

That's pretty much it. Apart from the need for links, I could get away with an RTF text box. I at least can't find much and I'm thinking I'll have to stay with the AxWebBrowser but thought I'd ask first.
